Emerald City (TV Trailer)

When a tornado transports Dorothy Gale from Lucas, Kan., to the faraway land of Oz, her arrival sets in motion a prophecy about a disastrous event known as The Beast Forever and strikes fear into the land’s almighty ruler, the Wizard. On her quest to meet the Wizard in Emerald City, Dorothy encounters witches, an amnesiac soldier, a sheltered little boy and many more mysterious beings that will ultimately shape the future of Oz and Dorothy’s place in it.

Season 1/Episode 1: The Beast Forever

While looking for her mother, Dorothy Gale is swept up in a tornado and lands in a mystical world where the powerful ruler of a kingdom faces the wrath of witches and a mythical force.

DVD Archive Review: Different – much different – to “The Wizard of OZ”, we have “Emerald City”, a much darker, but enriched tale that is from the Frank L. Baum’s Oz series. Described as a much more believable story-line wrapped in an uncertain world where we still have The Wizard and The Witches of the North, East, South and West – until the original plot takes effect.  Albeit in the 1939 film Dorothy from Kansas killed the wicked witch with her Aunt’s house by landing it on her, we see that this version is by a police car, go figure! Again, the features that convinced the younger of the older generations of Judy Garland, now find that Toto – Dorothy’s Dog – is a police dog that was left to her during the Tornado back in Kansas. Little by little, small (but significant) details change the whole original film story, including the biggest of all: The Yellow Brick Road.

Where we remember Dorothy landing in the Land of Oz and being greeted by the strange, but wonderful people, before setting eyes on Glinda The Good Witch, we are faced with a settlement of Tribes People, who, after great consideration banish her from their village. It is now that the mystical and magical journey of Dorothy begins.

Season 1/Episode 2: Prison of the Abject

While trying to find a way home, Dorothy meets an amnesiac wounded soldier and a young man trying to free his best friend from a mysterious woman.

DVD Archive Review: After her banishment, Dorothy continues on in her wandering for a way to get back to Kansas, only to come across a war zone speckled with death and destruction. Here she finds Lucas, a wounded soldier who Dorothy is unfamiliar with, but offers to help in return for guidance in reaching Emerald City – and find The Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz.

Picking up on The Yellow Brick Road, Dorothy and Lucas are confronted by two dangers; the first is that of Opium scent; the fields are reaped of the growing opium for trade and supply, while the second is The Wicked Witch of the West, who was not really dead – go figure!

Problems are resolved swiftly, while the two fugitives quicken their journey to find the only one person who can possibly save Dorothy and help her return home. But not too far away they find a house where a young boy is being held against his will, while the boy’s friend, Jack, is frightened by the engagement of Lucas and Dorothy’s solution of freeing Tip.

Season 1/Episode 3: Mistress – New – Mistress

Dorothy and Lucas find out the Wizard’s guards are coming to kill her; in Emerald City, the Wizard looks to his counsel for advisement as the witches show their power; Tip and Jack head to the city of Ev for a cure following a revelation.

DVD Archive Review: On the run from The Wizard’s Guards, Dorothy and Lucas, it is the splitting up of both Tip and Jack, that takes the four fugitives into a two story race of survival and freedom. The Wizard, having now become faced with the last two remaining Witch’s: The Witch of The North and The Witch of the East, to put to rest their Sister – The Witch of the West.

Dorothy and Lucas, pursued by The Wizard’s Guards are comforted by the charity of travel by a Caravan on their way to The Emerald City, while Tip and Jack further their attempts at finding a solution to the syrum that helps Tip – as given to him by his Jailer.

Difficulties arise for both Dorothy and Lucas, while tragedy strikes down hard on the friendship of Tip and Jack when they reach a cold, darkened city that ends their association.

DVD Archive Rating: 6.9/10.00

Season 1/Episode 4: Science and Magic

Dorothy and Lucas encounter a mysterious young girl who has lost her way; Tip is caught between two powerful forces; the wizard exacts his authority over a village’s citizens; a unique woman leads Jack down a new path.

DVD Archive Review: Mysterious or beguiling, a young girl is fixed fast to the protection of Lucas, who, with the help of Dorothy, takes her to the nearby village. Here they find that The Wizard’s Guards have finally caught up to them, but, things aren’t what they seem as regards the young girl.

Names are called, questions are asked, while The Wizard’s Council are showing a flux of doubt in their ability to serve. The travelling to a strange town where a mystical anomaly has been found makes The Wizard wonder; if Magic has been outlawed from the land, then what can he do to stop the Giants from wreaking their destruction throughout the rest of Oz?

Season 1/Episode 5: Everybody Lies (Unaired)

Seeking revenge for the death of her sister, the Witch of the East, the Witch of the West tracks down Dorothy and interrogates her; while the wizard seeks help from the Kingdom of Ev to defeat the beast.
